HUGH MOUSE - Not Too Seriously

About Me

Hugh Mouse
A MOUSE IN THE HOUSE My name is Hugh. I am a mouse. I live in George and Maggie’s house. At half-past twelve, when they’re asleep, I scamper ‘round without a peep. I look for crumbs of bread or cheese, But two BIG dogs get most of these. So then I chew the “news” instead And carry shreds back to my bed. I nest downstairs where it is cool. Perhaps, someday, when we are friends I’ll pose for her until she spends A lot of time with only me. And what a treasure I will be, ‘Cause I won’t bark! And I won’t tweet Like Henderson, their parakeet. I’ll tiptoe softly ‘round the house ‘Cause, after all, I am a mouse! My friend Leenie Clark met Hugh Mouse in my dusty old portfolio one day and wrote this poem:
